This series is very interesting with dimensional characters. I like the twists & reveals that lead you to a solution but the journey to get there reveals more than a mystery solution. Character development is subtle & well done. The visual experience of small town relationships creates full characters & sense of place without being small in description. Very intriguing. Love the needle work angle as well. Looking forward to reading more.
I have just discovered Monica Ferris and her crafting mystery series. As a crafter, I enjoy when it is part of my mystery reading also. I am making my way through book by book. I just chose one to review but so far this review covers the first five that I have read. The stories aren't predictable and I haven't noticed the type of template writing that so often happens in series like these. If you like needlecraft, knitting and murder mysteries, you have to give Ms. Ferris a shot.
This is the second book in the needlecraft mystery series. Betsy the owner of the store Crewel World is invited to watch a boat being raised from the bottom of the lake. When a skeleton is found on the boat with an old piece of lace. Many of the people in town begin to wonder if this skeleton is one of the two people who disappeared around the same time the boat sank.Many of the characters in this book are great. I am looking forward to reading the third book in this series. I am also wondering if Sophie will be getting her cast removed in the next book.
The second in a series of mysteries set in a needlework shop. The mystery was interesting, and offers a glimpse into the process of making lace.

I love this entire series! All the Monica Ferris books I've read are page turners. I'm looking forward to the next one!

Call me crazy but I just love the homeliness of Monica Ferris' books. They are not sophisticated and slick; but the characters ring true. Also, I love the Minnesota setting.
